Napoli could drop midfielder Piotr Zielinski from their Serie A squad list amid strong links between the player and Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Corriere reports that recent comments by Napoli’s President have only further soured the mood behind the scenes.

By now, the situation with Zielinski is something that “everyone and their dog” knows about in Italian football.

The 29-year-old former Udinese and Empoli midfielder’s contract with Napoli expires in six months.

There has been no movement towards an extension. The Partenopei attempted to convince Zielinski to sign a new deal, but to no avail.

And there is absolutely no mystery as to which club is trying to sign Zielinski in the summer.

Reports indicate that Inter have secured a verbal agreement after talks with the Polish international and his representatives.

Napoli Could Drop Piotr Zielinski From Serie A Squad Amid Inter Links

Now, the big question could be how the next six months will play out for Zielinski at Napoli.

The 29-year-old has been at the Partenopei since the summer of 2026. The end of June will see an eight-year story with the club come to an end.

Zielinski has made over 350 appearances for Napoli, and scored fifty goals.

The Pole may not add to those tallies, though.

According to the Corriere, there is doubt as to whether Zielinski will start for Napoli in this evening’s Serie A match against Lazio.

Gianluca Gaetano is the favourite to start in that match, reports the Corriere.

And then, from February 1st onwards, there would be a risk of Zielinski being left out of Napoli’s Serie A squad altogether.

Napoli have made several signings during the January transfer window.

These have included defensive midfielder Leander Dendoncker, and attacking midfielders Hamed Junior Traore and Cyril Ngonge.

Therefore, it could very well be the case that Zielinski is marginalized altogether from Napoli’s squad.

In the background, the Corriere report, recent remarks about Zielinski and his agent from the outspoken Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis have further inflamed tensions.
