Midfielder Kristjan Asllani has no doubt that staying at Inter Milan last summer transfer window was the right choice.

The 21-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN after yesterday evening’s Serie A win against FIorentina, via FCInterNews.

Last summer, Asllani found himself at a bit of a crossroads in his career.

The Albanian international was still only 21 years of age. And he had only been at Inter for one year.

But during his first season, the former Empoli midfielder was far from a regular starter.

Given the importance of playing time for players to develop, there was a sense that a move away on loan may have been the right option at that stage.

And there were reports of interest in Asllani. The likes of Sassuolo and Fiorentina were among the 21-year-old’s suitors within Serie A.

But in the end, Asllani made the decision to stay at Inter.

This season, playing time has not been much easier to come by for Asllani at the Nerazzurri.

But as the Albanian showed against Fiorentina yesterday, that is not going to stop him from growing into his role.

Kristjan Asllani: No Doubt That Staying At Inter Was The Right Choice

“I’ve been here for two years, and I’m still totally convinced,” Asllani said.

“I have top players like Hakan Calhanoglu ahead of me in the pecking order. And I can only learn from him, working hard every day to carve out space in the team.”

As far as the status of the players who are not regular starters, Asllani made clear that “No one has ever asked for more playing time.”

“I have a player who helps me out a lot in Calhanoglu.”

Asllani noted of his teammate that “He was speaking to me all through the week.”

“I stayed here with total conviction, and a strong desire to learn.”

Of his assist for Inter’s goal to win against Fiorentina from a corner yesterday, Frattesi said that “I saw that Parisi was marking Lautaro from a corner.”

“I thought that he might be able to cause him problems. So I tried the low cross in, and it worked out well.”

And as far as what his coach Simone Inzaghi gives him, Asllani said that “He always leaves me calm.”

“You might have thought that I’d be feeling that pressure, but that’s not the case.”

“He helped me to have a calm head during the week,” the 21-year-old said of his coach. “And then to show my quality in a tough match.”
