Inter Milan have reportedly informed Napoli that they intend to sign Piotr Zielinski as a free agent in the summer.

The Pole’s deal with the Partenopei will expire in June, which gives him the right to sign a pre-contract with another club starting this month.

Napoli have apparently conceded defeat in their attempts to keep the 29-year-old at the Maradona Stadium. Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis blamed it on the player’s agent in a recent interview while hinting at an eventual transfer to Inter.

The Nerazzurri have been working on securing the midfielder’s services for several months now.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, Inter have formally told Napoli that they intend to sign Zielinski on a free transfer.

Since the Poland international remains on the Azzurri’s books, this bureaucratic step is necessary to avoid legal consequences.

Thus, the pink newspaper expects Zielinski to ink a pre-contract with Inter in the next 15 or 20 days. The signatures could arrive following the first-leg encounter against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.

However, the midfielder is unlikely to take part in the European competition as Napoli will likely decide to drop him out of the UCL squad.

Inter Milan Tell Napoli They’re Looking To Sign Piotr Zielinski

The former Udinese and Empoli man has been plying his trade in the Southern Italian city since 2016. He won the Coppa Italia in 2020, and more famously the Scudetto title last season.

But it now appears that his time with Napoli is coming to an end while a new chapter in his Italian saga will begin in the summer.

The source expects Zielinski to sign a contract with Inter valid until 2027 or 2028. He should earn 4.5 million euros per season as net wages. But his total earnings could well exceed 5M after adding bonuses.
