Former Inter Milan goalkeeper Sebastien Frey would take Lautaro Martinez ahead of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic if he had to choose.

The two stars will spearhead the charge of their respective sides when the Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri collide in the Derby d’Italia.

Simone Inzaghi’s men currently sit on top of the table, with their arch-rivals right on their trail.

Likewise, Lautaro (19) has been leading the Serie A scoring charts since the start of the season, while Vlahovic sits in the runner-up spot (12).

While the gap remains considerable, the Serbian managed to climb the ranks on the back of a superb January. He scored six goals during the first month of the season.

But despite the 24-year-old’s recent revival, Frey still prefers the Nerazzurri captain.

“To date, I prefer Lautaro because he has been incredibly consistent since joining Inter,” said the former Parma and Fiorentina shot-stopper in his interview with TMW Radio via FcInterNews.

“Martinez is a leader and he has monstrous numbers. On the other hand, Vlahovic has always found difficulties. But now we’re beginning to see the real Dusan.

“It will be important for Vlahovic to confirm himself at these levels. As for Lautaro, he’s now a staple in Italy and Europe. It will be a good duel.”

The interviewer also asked the Frenchman to compare the two goalkeepers, Wojciech Szczesny and Yann Sommer.

“They are two great custodians. The Pole is a veteran. Juve are lucky to have him.

“This year, Sommer is proving himself. But for me, it is not a surprise, I have always rated him highly.

“Inter have thus far registered 19 clean sheets and Sommer deserves a big part of the credit. It’s not easy to replace Onana.”

As for the clash, Frey expects a different scenario from the return fixture that ended in a 1-1 draw. He believes a win would put Inter on the right track to lift the Scudetto.

“It will be completely different from the first match. Inter could open a seven-point gap with a win. So it would be a big step for the Scudetto.

“However, Juve won’t give up until the end. I think Inter will go on to win it, but it’s up to Juventus not to throw themselves out of contention and keep fighting until the end.”
