Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi will remain at the club as his transfer to Leicester City unexpectedly collapsed.

The two clubs had been negotiating a move for several weeks. This morning, the Nerazzurri gave the player the green light to leave the camp and board a flight to England to complete the switch.

But despite the agreement between the two clubs, the Foxes failed to register the deal in time before the closure of the Premier League transfer window (Midnight CET).

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the deal is now dead in the water.

As he explains, Leicester failed to untie the bureaucratic knots. They tried to find a formula that allows them to register the Italian midfielder while remaining within the Financial Fair Play limits.

Moreover, the transfer guru believes that the Foxes were also working on acquiring a Work Permit for the former Sassuolo star.

But in the end, the East Midlands side failed to overcome these hurdles in time.

Stefano Sensi Will Rejoin Inter Milan Camp As Leicester City Move Falters

Therefore, Sensi will now rejoin his Inter teammates at Appiano Gentile. Perhaps he’ll be part of the squad that takes on Juventus in the Derby d’Italia showdown on Sunday night.

As for the Nerazzurri management, they missed out on 2.5 million euros that they could have collected in bonuses as per the agreement with Leicester (in case the latter club secures promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season).

Barring any other twists, Sensi will now remain at the club until the expiry of his contract in June.

The Italian only made four appearances this term across all competitions, all coming off the bench.
