Inter Milan have been linked with a shock move for Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot as a replacement for Nicolo Barella.

Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, propose the possibility that the Frenchman could defy expectations and cross the Derby d’Italia divide.

At the moment, Nicolo Barella is hardly a player who Inter would have any interest in selling.

The 26-year-old is one of the Nerazzurri’s key men in midfield.

Barella is also a player who has shown little interest in leaving Inter. The former Cagliari midfielder has by all accounts rejected offers from any other suitors.

So far that has meant that Inter have turned down interest from teams like Arsenal and Manchester City.

But at the same time, the interest in Barella has never really gone away.

Tuttosport suggest that there is still every chance of more offers coming in for Barella next summer.

And, the newspaper proposes, this could push Inter into a shock sequence of events.

If an €80 million offer arrived similar to the one which Newcastle United paid for Sandro Tonali last summer, then it would not be easy for Inter to turn down, the Turin-based newspaper proposes.

Inter Linked With Adrien Rabiot As Shock Nicolo Barella Replacement

If Inter were to sell Barella they would naturally seek a replacement.

And Tuttosport suggest a player who would certainly come as a surprise.

28-year-old former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Rabiot will be in action tomorrow, and it will be against Inter.

The Nerazzurri and the Bianconeri face off in the Derby d’Italia tomorrow. A match that is always a big one, and this time with potential Serie A title ramifications.

Beyond the end of the season, there are lingering doubts about Rabiot’s future.

The Frenchman is out of contract with Juventus at the end of the season.

And Tuttosport note that, in all likelihood, if Rabiot’s contract with the Bianconeri were to expire without signing an extension then he would prefer a move to the Premier League over a Serie A rival.

Particularly a team like Inter, bitter enemies of Juventus.

But given Inter’s propensity for free transfer signings, Tuttosport suggest, it would be wise to never say never.
