The eight-year story between Piotr Zielinski and Napoli is ending in a “messy divorce” as a summer move to Inter Milan looms.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Zielinski joined Napoli during the summer of 2016.

The former Empoli and Udinese midfielder joined the Partenopei as a 21-year-old.

And it has been in Naples that Zielinski has established his reputation as one of Serie A’s best and most consistent midfielders.

Zielinski has been a regular starter under several Napoli coaches – having arrived when Maurizio Sarri was at the helm, the Pole has been a key man under Carlo Ancellotti and Gennaro Gattuso.

In during the two seasons with Luciano Spalletti in charge, Zielinski enjoyed perhaps his best ever spell at Napoli.

The Polish international was just about the first name on the teamsheet under the now-Italy coach.

Napoli finished third during the 2021-22 season. And then last time around, won the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years.

And Zielinski more than did his part to achieve this.

Piotr Zielinski & Napoli Endure “Messy Divorce” As Inter Move Looms

Last summer, Zielinski decided to stay at Napoli, despite a massive money offer from the Saudi Pro League.

It seemed as though the Pole would inevitably extend his contract with the Partenopei. Zielinski’s deal runs out at the end of June.

But the negotiations broke down between Zielinski’s representatives and Napoli.

This has been a tough season for last season’s Italian champions on the whole.

Napoli have gone through two coaches – Rudi Garcia and Walter Mazzarri.

And the style of football has been somewhat erratic, with Zielinski one of a number of players whose form has suffered.

Therefore, it is perhaps no surprise that the 29-year-old has reassessed his future.

And Zielinski has decided to join Inter next summer.

Now, it looks as though the next few months will be relatively toxic ones for Zielinski at Napoli.

After such a positive spell, the Polish international faces displacement from the Partenopei’s Champions League squad, and a “messy divorce” to end an otherwise beneficial relationship.
