Juventus coach Max Allegri feels that Inter Milan are firm favourites for the Serie A title after his Bianconeri side lost in the Derby d’Italia.
The Bianconeri boss spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the 1-0 Nerazzurri win, via FCInter1908. He praised Inter’s quality and experience.
It would certainly be an exaggeration to say that Inter have gotten their hands on the Serie A title after this evening’s victory.
There is still more than a third of a season to go. And there will be many tough matches along the way.
But there is now breathing room in the table for the Nerazzurri.
Inter have four points between them and Juventus at the top of the table.
And then there is the matter of the Nerazzurri’s game in hand on their rivals.
Therefore, Inter do have a bit of room to manoeuvre, whilst Juventus almost certainly can no longer afford to slip up.
Allegri: Inter Favourites For The Serie A Title
For much of the current season, Juventus coach Allegri has downplayed the idea that his team are fighting for the Serie A title.
The Bianconeri coach has perhaps been playing some mind games.
Naturally, given the young team that he has at his disposal, the veteran Serie A coach has aimed to take some of the pressure off of his players.
And on the contrary, Allegri has not exactly been subtle in his efforts to shift it onto Juventus.
But after this evening’s match, there is also plenty of honesty behind Allegri’s words.
Asked if he thinks that this evening’s result was “match point” for Inter, the Juventus coach simply replied that “We just have to keep going on the path we’re on.”
“In the first half it never quite got going. They scored from an own goal, and had most of the ball.”
“In the second half the match became a lot more open and entertaining,” Allegri continued.
“And they have great quality on the counterattack.”
The Bianconeri coach added that “Inter are the favourites for the Serie A title, and I can confirm that.”
“They have a lot of experience and quality,” Allegri said.
“Then, if we can win as many matches as possible and stay alongside them, and ahead of Milan, then all the better.”
