Inter Milan are targeting the beginning of the 2028-29 season to have a new 70,000 seater stadium built and ready to play in.

This according to today’s print edition of Italian business newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, via FCInterNews.

It now looks clearer than ever that Inter are aiming to move out of the San Siro area altogether for their future.

The Nerazzurri and city rivals AC Milan had spent years attempting to move forward with plans to replace the San Siro. But bureaucratic hurdles caused both clubs to lose patience.

Inter and Milan have both been taking firm steps in other directions in the last year or so.

For the Rossoneri, San Donato is the area where they have started the process of building a new stadium. And for Inter, it has been the commune of Rozzano.

Inter have already formally presented their preliminary plans to the municipality of Rozzano.

The Nerazzurri have a right of exclusivity to conduct a feasibility study in an area in the commune, which is part of the greater metropolitan area of Milano.

And according to Il Sole 24 Ore, the Nerazzurri have clear intentions for how they want to proceed from here.

The idea as far as the eventual scope of the new stadium is clear. Inter intend for the structure to accommodate around 70,000 spectators.

Then there will be room for a club museum, shops, retail, dining, and other things.

Meanwhile, Il Sole 24 Ore report, Inter’s plan is to stick with Populous for the design. That is the architectural design firm that had drawn up previous plans for a structure to replace the San Siro.

And Inter have a firm timeline in mind, according to Il Sole 24 Ore.

Inter want to have the final authorization to begin construction on a new stadium in the next eighteen months.

Then the club would project a three-year period in which construction of the stadium would take place.

That would mean that Inter could theoretically move in and start playing in the new stadium for the start of the 2028-29 campaign.
