Matteo Darmian is the favourite to start on the flank for Inter Milan against Juventus in this evening’s Serie A showdown.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the former Manchester United and Torino man is ahead of Denzel Dumfries to start.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi doesn’t have too many decisions to make as far as the lineup this evening.

Only Juan Cuadrado is absent through injury. And there are no players suspended for the Derby d’Italia clash.

Therefore, Inzaghi has the freedom to put out what he sees as his strongest possible lineup.

In midfield. Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu will certainly both return. Both were out with suspensions against Fiorentina last weekend, but they’ll form the starting trio with Henrikh Mkhitaryan this evening.

And in defense, it will be a back three of Francesco Acerbi, Benjamin Pavard, and Alessandro Bastoni.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram will lead the line in attack.

Matteo Darmian To Start For Inter In Serie A Showdown Vs Juventus

On the left flank, as well, there will be little doubt as to who starts.

Federico Dimarco will be back in the team after having sat out last weekend’s Serie A win away to Fiorentina.

It is in the other wingback position where there would be the one real doubt for Inzaghi.

34-year-old Italian international Darmian has started Inter’s last four matches in all competitions.

This has coincided with a period in which Dumfries was not quite at his best physically.

But the Dutchman did come off the bench against Fiorentina. And there was certainly no evidence of fitness problems in his performance at the Stadio Atemio Franchi.

However, the Corriere reports, Inzaghi will nevertheless stick with Darmian this evening.

The Italian can start the match. And then Dumfries will be an option in reserve on the substitute’s bench.
