Piero Ausilio has confirmed that Lautaro Martinez will extend his contract at Inter Milan, and that talks with Nicolo Barella have also started.

Speaking to reporters, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri Sporting Director also confirmed that there are talks with Mehdi Taremi and Piotr Zielinski to join on free transfers next summer.

In recent weeks, Inter have been in contract talks with their captain Martinez.

The Argentine has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, however.

By all accounts, there is optimism behind the scenes. But the Martinez’s agent rather bluntly hinted at the reason why talks have not wrapped up yet – Inter have not made a sufficient offer.

So the talks will have to go on.

And it is not exactly clear when negotiations would conclude. There is also a busy period of the season to attend to, and no one will want contract talks to become a distraction.

But for his part. Inter Sporting Director Ausilio is not phased.

The executive fully expects that Martinez will extend his contract sooner or later.

Ausilio: Lautaro Will Extend Inter Contract, Talks With Barella Started

When it was pointed out that Martinez himself has stated that he’s confident that he’ll end up signing an extension, Ausilio said that “If he said it, I don’t see why I shouldn’t confirm it.”

“There’s trust above all between us,” he continued. “Because we have the same intention. Both parties want to extend.”

“It’s normal that with negotiations underway, patience is always needed.”

“The timeline that you’re going by is not the same one way are. But I’m sure that we’ll reach an agreement that satisfies both parties, because that’s what we all want.”

And as far as Barella’s future, Ausilio said that “What I said before applies to all important Inter players.”

“We dealt with the more urgent ones first. Players whose deals were expiring before Lautaro’s or Barella’s.”

“Now we’ve sorted those out,” the Inter executive continued.

“But we’re already in talks to extend Lautaro and Barella to be on longer-term deals,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ausilio also spoke about links with Taremi and Zielinski. “There’s no point in hiding it,” he said of the Porto and Napoli players.

“These are situations that we’re working on.”

“We don’t like to give exact timelines or ultimatums,” the Inter Sporting Director said.

“We have informed their respective clubs that we’re negotiating with them,” he made clear.

“There have been contacts. Now let’s see if they lead to anything definitive.”
