Bologna coach Thiago Motta praises former Inter Milan youngster Giovanni Fabbian for displaying improvement in recent weeks.

The 21-year-old rose through the Nerazzurri ranks and managed to impress last season while on loan with Serie B side Reggina.

The midfielder caught the attention of Bologna who splashed 6 million euros to secure his services last summer.

Despite making a permanent transfer to the Emilian club, Inter continue to keep an eye on his development. After all, the Serie A giants still have a buy-back option.

But for now, Fabbian remains a Bologna player who’s slowly establishing himself as a regular starter.

The Italy U21 starlet didn’t see much playing time earlier in the season, but his importance to the cause is gradually growing.

Motta underlines the aspects that Fabbian has managed to improve in his game.

“Fabbian has improved both his dribbling and his defensive contribution. He’s also understanding how to occupy spaces,” said the Bologna manager in his pre-match press conference on Friday via FcInterNews.

“He has also enhanced his ability to put his opponents in difficulty and play between the lines.

“Giovanni has enormous strength. He makes runs forward and then drops deep. He is much more complete now, which is why he is playing more regularly.”

The young midfielder has thus far made 13 Serie A appearances, while contributing with three goals.

He also played twice in the Coppa Italia this season, including the shocking win over Inter in the Round of 16
