Bologna have completed a deal to sign young midfielder Giovanni Fabbian from Inter Milan.

The Emilian club confirm the 20-year-old’s arrival on a permanent deal in an official announcement, whilst Inter will have a buyback option on the player.

Bologna have won the race for Fabbian’s signature after a summer of many clubs giving it a go.

The Italy under-21 international has had plenty of suitors after an excellent season on loan in Serie B with Reggina.

All of Lecce, Salernitana, Genoa, and Empoli have shown interest.

Moreover, until last week, it had looked as though Fabbian was heading to Udinese.

The Friulani had been ready to sign the 20-year-old as part of a deal for Lazar Samardzic to go in the opposite direction.

However, the Nerazzurri’s signing of Samardzic has collapsed entirely.

Therefore, Fabbian will not join Udinese after all. And it has not taken long for Inter to sort out a different plan for the young midfielder.

Bologna Sign Giovanni Fabbian From Inter Milan

Now, Fabbian will make himself available to Rossoblu coach Thiago Motta immediately.

There had been reports that Bologna could loan the 20-year-old straight back out next season to Frosinone, yet another admirer of the player.

However, this is not going to happen after all. Bologna will make Fabbian a part of their first-team setup right away.

Expectations are quite high for Fabbian taking his next steps going into the season.

Last season was Fabbian’s first within the senior game. He took his initial steps in Serie B.

That was a very successful first venture into senior football for a player who’d already starred at youth team level.

Fabbian named as the Reggina’s best player of the season.

This has even led to interest from some of Serie A’s heavy hitters – Napoli, Lazio, and Atalanta.
