Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan feels that he and his teammates have to stay focused and switched-on against a tough Roma team this evening.

The Armenian spoke to InterTV ahead of the Serie A clash, via FCInterNews.

Inter are coming into this evening’s match at the Stadio Olimpico with plenty of momentum on their side.

The Nerazzurri have won each of their last six matches between Serie A and the Supercoppa Italiana. That means that they have won every match they’ve played in 2024.

Moreover, Inter beat Juventus in the Derby d’Italia last weekend.

Therefore, there is certainly a sense that Inter are the favourites in this evening’s match.

It is not as though Roma have been in strong form in recent weeks.

However, the Giallorossi may well have turned a corner.

The decision to sack Jose Mourinho as coach was a controversial one. And Daniele De Rossi was not exactly the most experienced replacement for the Portuguese.

However, the Roma club legend has given his old team the new coach bounce that they sought.

The Giallorossi have won each of their last two matches since the 40-year-old took over.

Moreover, it would be impossible to deny the quality that this Roma team possesses.

Mkhitaryan, furthermore, would know this as well as anyone, considering that he played for the Giallorossi for three seasons prior to joining Inter in 2022.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan: Inter Have To Stay Switched-On Vs Roma

As far as what he’s anticipating this evening, Mkhitaryan said “A difficult match.”

“Roma are a new team with a new coach,” the veteran midfielder noted.

“It’ll be difficult,” he continued.

“But we’ve prepared to face them well. And we’ll do everything we possibly can to keep the momentum going.”

And as far as the fact that Inter and Roma are the two teams to have scored the most goals in the final fifteen minutes of matches this season, Mkhitaryan said that “We don’t have to wait until the last fifteen minutes.”

“We’ll try to score as early as possible,” the 35-year-old added.

“We’ll think about the last fifteen minutes once we’re there,” Mkhitaryan made clear.

The former Arsenal, Mancheseter United, and Borussia Dortmund man said that “We have to stay careful  and calm throughout the match.”

“Because Roma are a very good team.”

“They have technical, tactical, and physical quality,” Mkhitaryan added.

“We can’t give up for even a second,” he concluded. “We have to stay switched-on and win the match.”
