Matteo Darmian is ahead of Denzel Dumfries to start on the right for Inter Milan against Roma this evening.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
For the last month, Darmian has been the preferred starter on the right flank for Inter.
The former Manchester United and Torino man has started in each of the Nerazzurri’s last five matches across all competitions.
Darmian, who is also capable of playing on the right of the back three, has started at right-wingback.
Dumfries had started in Inter’s first match of 2024. The Dutchman started in a Serie A win over Hellas Verona.
But since then, Darmian has started against Monza in the league, Lazio and Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana, and then in Serie A wins over the likes of Fiorentina and Juventus.
Darmian Ahead Of Dumfries To Start For Inter Vs Roma
According to the Gazzetta, Darmian is likely to keep his place once again against Roma.
The 34-year-old should make it six consecutive starts in a row at the Stadio Olimpico.
By and large, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has already made up his mind as to who will start this evening’s match against the Giallorossi.
The coach wants to go with his strongest starting lineup.
And that does mean that there has been some doubt regarding the right flank.
Dumfries, who has dealt with some fitness issues for much of the season, has looked to be in good conditions in substitute appearances against Fiorentina and Juventus.
Therefore, Inzaghi has considered giving the 27-year-old the nod.
But the Gazzetta anticipate that it will nevertheless be Darmian once again.
Meanwhile, there is also Tajon Buchanan available. The Canadian has yet to make an appearance since joining Inter last month.
And then, Juan Cuadrado continues to be absent after undergoing tendon surgery in December.
