Inter Milan defender Francesco Acerbi will undergo medical tests by tomorrow after being forced off with an injury against Roma.

This according to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Acerbi had started yesterday’s match against Roma.

The former Lazio defender took up his usual position in the centre of Inter’s back three.

But Acerbi was unable to see out the full ninety minutes.

Just after the hour mark, the 35-year-old went down off the ball holding his calf in evident discomfort.

Acerbi made clear to the bench that he would need to come off as a substitute immediately.

Therefore, the Italian international played no further part in the match, a 4-2 win for Inter in the end.

Another ex-Lazio defender replaced Acerbi, in the form of Dutch international Stefan de Vrij. The 32-year-old saw out the last half hour of the match at the Stadio Olimpico.

Francesco Acerbi Set For Medical Tests After Going Down With Injury Vs Roma

Now, the big question will be when Acerbi will be able to return from his injury.

Inter have quite a few fixtures coming up just on the horizon.

After Friday’s Serie A match against Salernitana, the Nerazzurri will face Atletico Madrid in the first leg of a Champions League round of sixteen tie.

Even an absence of just two or three weeks could see Acerbi miss quite a few matches for Inter.

And the 35-year-old would be a big loss for the Nerazzurri. He has been one of the team’s key defenders since joining in 2022.

According to Tuttosport, Acerbi will undergo medical tests either today or tomorrow.

These should determine whether the veteran defender is just feeling mild discomfort, or whether there is a more serious injury that will keep him on the sidelines for a longer period.

Acerbi went down under no contact, and was holding the same area that had kept him out for around a month at the start of the season.
