Inter Milan midfielder Davy Klaassen could find himself in Simone Inzaghi’s starting lineup for Friday’s encounter against Salernitana.

The Nerazzurri have now opened a seven-point gap with Juventus on top of the Serie A table while also having an extra match in hand.

Therefore, Inzaghi could decide to rotate his ranks, allowing some of his main stars to restore their energy levels ahead of Tuesday’s big showdown against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16.

According to Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews, this could mean granting Klaassen a rare chance to start.

As the source explains, the manager is hoping to rely on the services of Davide Frattesi. The former Sassuolo man would replace either Nicolo Barella or Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the middle of the park.

However, the 24-year-old’s availability remains uncertain at this point. The Italian midfielder missed last weekend’s trip to Rome due to an injury.

So if Frattesi isn’t fit enough to start, Inzaghi will turn to Klaassen.

The Dutchman joined the Nerazzurri on last summer’s transfer deadline day. He signed on a free transfer after rescinding his contract with Ajax.

However, the 30-year-old has been struggling for playing time. He only made three appearances as a starter across all competitions this season.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Could Start With Davy Klaassen Vs Salernitana

On another note, the source expects Inzaghi to rotate his attacking duo as well.

The coach could opt to drop both Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram in favor of Alexis Sanchez and Marko Anautovic.

Alternatively, Inzaghi could maintain one of his two first-choice strikers, and pair him with one of the understudies.

Moreover, Denzel Dumfries looks set to start on the right wing, thus dropping Matteo Darmian to the bench.
