Michele Di Gregorio and Bento are among the players Inter Milan are monitoring as potential Yann Sommer backups.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
At the moment, there is certainly no doubt as to who Inter’s Number One is.
35-year-old Swiss international Sommer has played every minute for the Nerazzurri in Serie A so far this season after joining from Bayern Munich in the summer.
And at the moment, there is no sign that Sommer is slowing down.
The veteran keeper has more than ably replaced Andre Onana in goal. And could hold down the starting role for seasons to come.
Meanwhile, Emil Audero has been Sommer’s backup this campaign.
The 27-year-old signed from Sampdoria during the summer. He joined on a season-long loan, with the Nerazzurri having a purchase option.
Audero has so far made two appearances for Inter. One came in the Champions League against Benfica, and the other against Bologna in the Coppa Italia.
Di Gregorio & Bento Among Inter Targets As Yann Sommer Backups
There is currently no certainty as to whether or not Inter will make Audero’s loan permanent at the end of the season.
And if the Nerazzurri do not do so, they will need a new backup for Sommer.
The priority would be to sign a keeper on the younger end. A player who could stick around for years to come, and even have the potential quality to replace Sommer as the starter in the longer term.
One such target would be Di Gregorio.
The 26-year-old has been one of the outstanding keepers in Serie A so far this season.
And Di Gregorio also has a strong connection to Inter. He came through the youth ranks at the Nerazzurri, and has never hid his feelings as a supporter of the club.
These would be factors in favour of Di Gregorio.
But the price tag would be the biggest reason by far why a move for the 26-year-old may not be feasible. Di Gregorio’s excellent performances for Monza certainly mean that the Brianzoli would want a high fee.
That would then also leave Brazilian Bento.
Currently playing for Athletico Paranaense, Inter have long had an interest in the 24-year-old. And reports suggest that Bento himself would be keen on the move.
