Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi says that he decided to save Davide Frattesi for upcoming matches rather than have the midfielder feature against Salernitana.

Speaking to InterTV after the win over the Granata, via FCInterNews, the coach also gave the view that defender Yann Bisseck would have deserved the start the match.

One player who did not play a part in yesterday’s match was midfielder Frattesi.

The former Sassuolo midfielder was in the squad. This came after there had been some doubt about his availability as he had just recovered from an injury.

However, Frattesi did not feature in the Serie A clash. He started on the bench, and did not come on as a substitute.

This perhaps reflects the 24-year-old not having been fully fit.

And it is not as though there was any need for Frattesi to come on and make an impact.

Inter were in full control from the first minute. And they were already 3-0 up at halftime.

So Frattesi did not play, and will theoretically be fresher for Inter’s next match. And that will be a big one – on Tuesday, the Nerazzurri host Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of sixteen first leg.

Inzaghi Explains Why Davide Frattesi Left Out Vs Salernitana

Of the very positive displays by lesser-used players like Carlos Augusto against Salernitana yesterday evening, Inzaghi said that “We need to have that kind of mentality.”

“Not just in terms of Augusto’s performance,” the Inter coach continued.

“And I wouldn’t forget about Bisseck either,” he noted. “He also deserved to start today.”

“Frattesi put in a lot of dedication in training to make himself available for this evening’s match,” Inzaghi noted.”

“But given the way the match was going, I decided to give him a few more days in training before getting on the pitch.”

“But he had already shown me yesterday that he was ready,” Inzaghi said.
