Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is planning to make just two changes to the team that faced Salernitana against Atletico Madrid.

Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri coach will largely stick with the same starting lineup, but will overhaul things on the flanks.

Inzaghi went against expectations with his team selections against Salernitana on Friday.

Reports during the week had suggested that the Inter coach would rotate his team significantly for that match.

After all, Inter had a meaningful buffer at the top of the Serie A table going into it. And they were facing about as easy fixture as they could, on paper, against the relegation-battling Campanians.

But in the end, Inzaghi decided to play a nearly full-strength starting eleven.

Inzaghi To Largely Stick With Team That Beat Salernitana Vs Atletico Madrid

Evidently, Inzaghi wanted to take zero risks of a shock result on Friday.

The 47-year-old played a team that was more than capable of taking the three points against Salernitana.

And Inzaghi got his reward for that decision. Inter steamrolled the Granata at the San Siro by a 4-0 scoreline that almost flattered the visiting side.

The Nerazzurri coach did get to rest some key players in the second half with the result well and truly wrapped up, however.

But as far as this Tuesday’s Champions League round of sixteen match, Sky reports that Inzaghi will not have any thoughts of rotating in Europe in view of domestic competition.

It will largely be the same team as against Salernitana when Inter host Atletico.

That will mean that Stefan de Vrij is in the centre of the back three. Alessandro Bastoni and Benjamin Pavard will flank the Dutchman.

The usual midfield trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella will line up from the start.

And strikers Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram will lead the line.

On the other hand, in the wingback positions Inzaghi will rotate. Italian internationals Matteo Darmian and Federico Dimarco will replace Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Augusto respectively.
