Tomorrow’s match against Atletico Madrid is set to be Inter Milan’s second highest-earning gate receipt at the San Siro.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Gazzetta anticipate that the sold-out Champions League clash will bring in around €9 million.

It is not exactly a surprise that tomorrow evening’s match has drawn a sold-out crowd.

Inter are facing one of Europe’s elite with enormous expectation.

Last season saw the Nerazzurri go as far as the Champions League final. And this time around, there is a sense that the team is even stronger, capable of more.

So tomorrow’s round of sixteen first leg will certainly be a marquee match.

And with the demand for tickets at a high, the club have managed to turn the European showdown into a real cash cow.

Atletico Madrid Clash To Be Second Highest Gate Receipt In Inter History

As the Gazzetta note, tomorrow’s match will bring in more money than either the round of sixteen stage, or the quarterfinals, of last season’s edition of the competition.

In the round of sixteen, Inter faced Porto. The first leg was at the San Siro, and that match saw Inter earn around €6.7 million in gate receipts.

Then in the quarterfinals, Inter took on another Portuguese giant, Benfica.

The first leg of that tie took place at the Estadio da Luz in Portugal.

Then Inter played the second leg in front of their home fans in Milano. The total gate receipt for that match was even higher than the clash with Porto, totalling around €7.8 million.

Inter will surpass the earnings from both of those matches with tomorrow’s match.

However, the highest-earner will still be the second leg of last season’s Champions League semifinal tie.

That tie had pitted Inter and city rivals AC Milan in an enormously significant Milan derby.

The anticipation and demand for tickets was, naturally, absolutely huge. And on that occasion, Inter earned a total of €12.5 million from one single match in the second leg of the tie.
