Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram feels that winning the Champions League is more than just a dream for the Nerazzurri.

The Frenchman was confident ahead of his team’s round of sixteen first leg clash tomorrow speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews.

Tomorrow evening, Inter go head-to-head with Atletico Madrid in the first of two Champions League round of sixteen matches.

This will mark the beginning of another adventure in the knockout rounds of Europe’s top club competition for the Nerazzurri.

The last one was a very memorable one. Inter faced Porto at this stage, before eliminating Benfica and then AC Milan in a semifinal derby that will live long in the memory.

The Nerazzurri didn’t go on to win the final. They lost 0-1 to Manchester City, a heartbreaking end to a match that saw them go toe-to-toe with the English champions.

But Inter did gain confidence, and credibility.

The team showed that they can reach the final. And against City, Inter showed that they will not play as inferior to anyone.

This seems to mark a bit of a shift.

On their first time back in the knockouts two years ago, Inter were distinctly underdogs against Liverpool.

That tie saw the Nerazzurri play well in periods, but perhaps punished for their naivete.

But now, things look different. Nobody is going to be underestimating this Inter team.

Marcus Thuram: Champions League Not Just A Dream For Inter

Of tomorrow’s match against Atletico, Thuram anticipated that “It will be a great match.”

“It’s against a tough opponent, in a great stadium,” he added.

“We hope to play a great match.”

Of his France national team teammate Antoine Griezmann, Thuram said that “We all know that he’s among the best players in the world.”

“But to stop him we all have to work tactically, as a team.”

“We’re ready to face him tomorrow,” the Inter striker made clear.

And asked if he thinks that winning the Champions League is a “dream” Thuram responded, “No, it’s an objective.”

“We know what Inter did last season,” the Frenchman added.

“We’ll take to the pitch to win.”
