Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian feels that the Nerazzurri have prepared well for the challenge of facing Atletico Madrid.

The 34-year-old spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, ahead of the Champions League round of sixteen showdown.

The wait is now all but over. Inter will return to European action this evening.

The Nerazzurri take on a very formidable Atletico Madrid team.

The Colchoneros finished top of a group containing the likes of Lazio, Feyenoord, and Celtic. They are also enjoying a strong La Liga campaign.

So Inter will know well that this could be one of their toughest matches of the entire season.

But this is a Nerazzurri side with reason to be confident.

Firstly, because Inter’s league form this season has been outstanding.

And secondly, because this team showed last season that they have little to fear from Europe’s elite.

Inter reached the Champions League final last time around, dispatching the likes of Barcelona, Porto, Benfica, and city rivals AC Milan along the way.

And then, in that final, Inter went toe-to-toe with Premier League juggernaut Manchester City.

That match ended in heartbreak for the Nerazzurri. They lost 0-1, despite putting in an impressive performances and creating a number of good chances to score.

But it showed that Inter are capable of being ready for even the toughest of matches.

Inter Defender Matteo Darmian: Well-Prepared To Face Atletico Madrid

“But we want to do well,” the Italian international continued.

“We’ve prepared well for it, and we want to bring home the win.”

The 35-year-old said that “We have to take care. Because they’re a great team.”

“They have quality players,” Darmian said of this evening’s opposition.

“I don’t think Atletico are just a team who defend,” he added.

“They can also play good football, so we have to be careful against them.”
