Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez and midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan are one booking away from suspension during this evening’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, note the disciplinary tightrope that the key Nerazzurri duo will be walking. Kristjan Asllani is also in the same boat.

Inter are gearing up to take on Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of sixteen in just a few hours.

But this match will just be the first of two legs for the knockout tie. There will also be the return match in Madrid next month to think about.

And for two Inter players, this will certainly be a factor in their minds.

Lautaro Martinez & Henrikh Mkhitaryan One Booking Away From Suspension Vs Atletico Madrid

The Gazzetta note that there are three Inter players currently on four yellow cards in Europe.

And that means that, should they go into the book this evening, they will receive a one-match suspension.

If any of them are to receive a caution this evening, they will serve that suspension in the second leg of the crucial knockout tie against the Colchoneros.

And two of the Inter players in this situation are certainly key members of the starting eleven.

Perhaps most notably, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez is one booking away from suspension in Europe.

The Argentine is certainly a key man for the Nerazzurri. He is the team’s captain, and their top scorer this season, already on 22 goals.

But it’s not just Martinez who will have to be mindful. Veteran former Arsenal and Roma midfielder Mkhitaryan has been just as important to Inter’s starting eleven this season.

Apart from those two, there is also midfielder Asllani.

But whilst Martinez and Mkhitaryan are all but certain to start this evening, the former Empoli midfielder is much less so.
