Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian feels that Lautaro Martinez is the perfect player to captain this Nerazzurri team.

The 34-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster Radio Serie A con RDS, via FCInterNews, praising his teammate’s leadership with the armband.

Last summer, Martinez became Inter’s captain.

Following the retirement of former captain Samir Handanovic from playing, it was the Argentine who stepped into the role.

At 26 years of age, Martinez is relatively young to be wearing the armband.

However, that has not stopped him from looking at home as the Nerazzurri’s skipper.

Despite being only in his mid-twenties, Martinez has already been at Inter for more than five years. He has been a key part of the starting eleven for much of that time.

Martinez has been Inter’s top scorer in each of the past two seasons.

And considering that the 26-year-old is already on 22 goals for the current campaign, it looks very likely that he will make it three in a row.

Moreover, Martinez has been a player who has shown great loyalty to Inter.

The Argentine has had plenty of suitors during his time at the club. But he has always made clear that his priority is to stay at Inter and continue to be a key part of the Nerazzurri project.

Matteo Darmian: Lautaro Martinez The Right Captain For This Inter

Darmian was asked who he thinks the perfect captain for Inter is.

The former Manchester United, Torino, and Parma veteran said that “Right now, Lautaro Martinez is the right captain.”

“He’s a tough captain,” the defender added.

“Then there was Javier Zanetti, who was a great captain.”

“Those are the two who I can name for you.”

Martinez joined Inter from Racing Club in the summer of 2018.

The Argentine international has since gone on to make 270 appearances for the Nerazzurri to date, scoring 125 goals across all competitions in the process.
