Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto will take the place of either Alessandro Bastoni or Federico Dimarco against Lecce.
Today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, report that the versatile Brazilian will start either in defense or at wingback in Sunday’s Serie A match.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi will be making some changes to the starting eleven this weekend.
The Nerazzurri faced a tough Champions League match against Atletico Madrid this week.
And next Wednesday, just three days after the match against Lecce, Inter will play again. They will host Atalanta in the makeup match for the fixture that they missed during the Supercoppa Italiana.
Therefore, Inzaghi will be mindful of not overusing key players.
That will mean that the coach gives a few regular starters a rest from the start.
And the versatile of one particular player in the squad will be a big aid to Inzaghi in this respect.
Carlos Augusto To Replace Either Bastoni Or Dimarco Vs Lecce
Augusto is, first and foremost, a wingback.
That is the position on the pitch that the 25-year-old has played in the majority of times that he’s appeared for Inter this season.
It is also the role that the Nerazzurri signed Augusto for based on his performances for Monza.
The Brazilian had been a standout player for the Brianzoli playing a fairly attacking role wide on the left.
However, this season Augusto’s versatility has also come to the fore on one or two occasions.
The Brazilian has proven capable of shifting into a back three when Inzaghi has made tactical changes.
And against Napoli in a Serie A match in December, that is where Augusto played the majority of the match.
An injury to Stefan de Vrij during that match left Inter in something of an injury crisis in terms of players capable of playing in the defensive line.
But Augusto filled in very ably to help keep a clean sheet.
Therefore, it is very possible that the Brazilian could start on the left of a back three this weekend.
Thus, Inzaghi will have the chance to rest either Bastoni at centre-back, or Dimarco on the left flank
