Inter Milan and AC Milan remain cold as ever on the idea of continuing to play in the San Siro.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that even with the prospect of significant renovations, the clubs would prefer to build new stadiums.

Yesterday representatives of Inter and Milan met with Milan Mayor Beppe Sala.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the Mayor’s idea to have the two clubs remain at the San Siro well into the future.

The Mayor, and the city of Milan, are now working on the idea of significantly renovating the San Siro.

This could allow for more corporate and hospitality seating. That has long been a key point driving Inter and Milan to want to build new stadiums.

Top European clubs almost universally have stadiums with significant corporate and hospitality accommodations, a major boost in terms of revenues.

Subsequently, given the relative lack of such seating at the San Siro, Inter and Milan have aimed to build new, more modern stadiums which can be greater cash cows up to the European standard.

Inter & AC Milan Cold As Ever On Staying At San Siro

For several years, the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri had been working towards plans to demolish the San Siro and replace it with a new stadium.

After it became clear that that would not be possible, the clubs changed course.

Both clubs are now working towards projects in other areas. Milan in the commune of San Donato, Inter in Rozzano.

And according to the Corriere, little has changed in that respect

Representatives of the two clubs heard Sala’s proposal in yesterday’s meeting.

But the Mayor has not substantially convinced the two clubs.

Rather, Inter and Milan continue to believe that staying at the San Siro will not be viable.

One way or the other, the clubs’ priority is to construct new stadiums – or a single new structure to share.
