Contract talks between Inter Milan and Denzel Dumfries have “come back to life” as the Dutchman has started having second thoughts.

Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it report that there is newfound confidence that an agreement can be found on a new deal for the Dutchman on wages of around €4 million net per season.

In recent weeks, it has looked more and more like Dumfries would be leaving Inter next summer. The reason for this is that contract talks between the former PSV wingback and Inter had stalled.

At the moment, Dumfries is under contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of June 2025. That means that the 27-year-old’s contract would be ending at the end of next season.

And Inter would have absolutely no intention of letting Dumfries go into the final year of his deal.

The club’s priority has been to avoid another situation like that of Milan Skriniar.

The defender left on a free transfer last summer to join Paris Saint-Germain, after Inter had failed to agree a new deal with him.

So Inter have made their stance clear. The Nerazzurri want to wrap up contract talks with Dumfries before the end of this season, one way or the other.

Contract Talks Between Inter Milan & Denzel Dumfries Back To Life

In recent weeks, it has looked as thought contract talks between Inter and Dumfries had hit the rocks.

The reason has been a distance between the club’s offer and the player’s demands.

Reportedly, Inter have not wanted to go higher than €4 million net per season with an offer.

Meanwhile, the player and his representatives have been demanding at least €5 million net per season.

Moreover, the scrapping of the Growth Decree in football has made it even more difficult for the Nerazzurri to go much higher in their offer.

So the situation has looked to be that Dumfries would not likely sign a new deal. And then, Inter would look to sell the player next summer.

But according to the Gazzetta, Dumfries has had a change of heart.

The 27-year-old is happy at Inter, and enjoys life in Milan.

Therefore, Dumfries is aiming to extend his contract.

So much so that the Gazzetta anticipate there is real scope for the club and player to agree terms on a new deal with wages of around €4 million net per season.

The Gazzetta report that there was a recent contact between Inter and Dumfries’s representatives. This was for the purpose of initiating new negotiations on a contract extension.
