Inter Milan will take no risks with the fitness of Marcus Thuram and Francesco Acerbi, with the pair expected to return in time to face Atletico Madrid.

Today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the striker and defender should definitely be back in time for the Champions League round of second leg. But they won’t rush back.

At the moment, Thuram and Acerbi are the two notable injury absences for Inter.

The former picked up a thigh problem in the first leg against Atletico.

Inter confirmed yesterday that Thuram suffered an elongation of the adductor muscle in his right thigh.

Meanwhile, Acerbi has been out for a couple weeks already. The Italian international suffered a calf problem in a Serie A win over Roma earlier this month.

No Risks Taken With Thuram & Acerbi Ahead Of Atletico Madrid Clash

Neither Thuram nor Acerbi will be back for either of Inter’s next couple matches.

This weekend, the Nerazzurri travel to Lecce in Serie A. Then on Wednesday of next week, they host Atalanta in the make-up fixture for the match missed during the Supercoppa Italiana.

And there would be no chance of either Thuram or Acerbi featuring in either of those matches.

In the case of the Frenchman, a return will be around 10-15 days away. So certainly not within the next week.

Meanwhile, the recovery timeline for Acerbi is similar.

Both of Thuram and Acerbi could conceivably be back for next month’s Serie A match at home to Genoa.

And if not then, returns could be on the horizon for the away trip to Bologna.

The aim will be to get both Thuram and Acerbi back at their best in time for the big trip to Madrid next month.

But one way or another, Inter will not risk bringing either back without absolute certainty regarding their fitness.
