Is the Serie A title now just a “formality” for Inter Milan after the Nerazzurri rompted to a 4-0 win over Lecce?

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, suggest that it is.

Inter’s victory as the Via del Mare was their 21st in Serie A this season.

The Nerazzurri have lost just once – against Sassuolo in September. And they have drawn matches against Bologna, Juventus, and Genoa.

Otherwise, Inter have won relentlessly.

Yesterday was yet another clean sheet for the Nerazzurri. That makes it sixteen in the league in total, and a first league clean sheet for Emil Audero in an Inter shirt.

Inter took their goal total in the league to 63 for the season. With 12 goals conceded at the other end, the Nerazzurri’s goal difference stands at an eye-watering +51.

Meanwhile, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez’s brace means that he has now scored 22 goals in Serie A since the campaign began.

That puts the Argentine even further ahead in the race to finish the season as Serie A’s top scorer.

And Inter have now won ten matches from ten in 2024. This encompasses matches in the league as well as Supercoppa Italiana and Champions League.

Serie A Title Win A “Formality” For Inter After Lecce Win

The three points that Inter took against Lecce mean that they restored their nine-point advantage over Juventus at the top of the Serie A table, after their closest rivals beat Frosinone earlier in the day.

And that is with a game in hand on the Bianconeri. The Nerazzurri face Atalanta later this week.

That is a significant gap.

But it is not as though Inter have mathematically won the title yet.

There is still some way to go before the Nerazzurri can say that.

But the feeling is that each win is another brick laid by Inter. The team got an emphatic 4-0 win even with a heavily rotated team in a tough away match.

So for the Gazzetta, it is all ultimately nothing more than a “formality.”

It’s a matter of “when” rather than “if” Inter confirm their status as champions.
