Inter Milan are monitoring Fiorentina wingback Michael Kayode as a possible replacement if Denzel Dumfries leaves.
This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews. The outlet note that former Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic scouted the 19-year-old at La Viola’s Serie A win over Lazio yesterday.
Kayode has been one of the breakout talents in Serie A over the course of the season so far.
The teenager has become a regular in the Fiorentina first team. He has not made a single senior appearance for the Tuscans prior to the start of the campaign, but has nailed down a spot on the right.
Kayode also made his debut for the Italian Under-21 national side, having played for the Azzurri at various youth levels.
The Italian scored a vital goal for La Viola against Lazio yesterday.
This was a high-profile moment for Kayode. But it was only one more big step for a player who has been enjoying positive growth all season long.
And this has attracted some transfer interest. Including from Serie A league leaders Inter.
Inter Monitoring Fiorentina Breakout Star Michael Kayode
FCIN note that one player whose situation at Inter is up in the air is wingback Denzel Dumfries.
The Dutchman’s contract with the Nerazzurri runs out at the end of June 2025.
And if Dumfries does not sign an extension, the club will want to sell him.
Premier League giants Manchester United are among the clubs most interested in signing the 27-year-old
And in the event that Dumfries does head for the exit door, Inter will want to replace him on the right flank.
Inter have already signed Tajon Buchanan in January. The Canadian is a potential long-term replacement for Dumfries on the right.
But the Nerazzurri would want another player as well.
And as FCIN note, Kayode ticks some key boxes.
The 19-year-old is young and has significant room to grow, certainly a plus. Moreover, his age would mean that his wage demands would not be excessively high.
Kayode is Italian and has experience in Serie A already, which would mean that he would be a strong candidate to adapt at Inter.
But on the other hand, Fiorentina would undoubtedly expect a significant fee for a player like Kayode.
So Inter’s interest is not yet at the stage of any sort of formal approach to Kayode’s club.
But FCIN note that former Inter captain Handanovic, who has been doing scouting work for the Nerazzurri, was present to watch Kayode at the Stadio Artemio Franchi yesterday.
