Bologna midfielder Giovanni Fabbian is not getting ahead of himself as far as a possible return to Inter Milan.

The 21-year-old spoke to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews. He emphasized crossing the bridge that may lead back to the Nerazzurri when he gets to it.

Fabbian joined Bologna from Inter during the summer transfer window prior to this season.

The Italian youth team international left Inter on a permanent basis, rather than on loan.

However, that does not mean that Inter completely lost control over Fabbian’s future.

On the contrary, Inter have a buyback option to bring the midfielder back.

Reports suggest that the Nerazzurri can sign Fabbian back for a fee of around 12 million. This clause would become active in the summer of 2025.

Moreover, Inter have a sort of right of first refusal.

That means that the Nerazzurri can sign Fabbian back even if other clubs were to make offers.

Giovanni Fabbian On Possible Inter Return

The form that Fabbian has been in this season suggests that Inter could certainly have reason to exercise that buyback option when the time comes.

The 21-year-old did not start the campaign as a regular starter for Bologna.

But Fabbian has really worked his way into the lineup for the Rossoblu under Thiago Motta.

Fabbian has scored four goals, and assisted a further two, so far this season. He has had decisive performances to power the Emilian club’s improbable charge for top four in Serie A.

Fabbian said that “I feel great here.”

“That’s not just a diplomatic answer,” he continues.

“It’s a great group, and we enjoy being together.”

“So we’ll think about that when the time comes,” Fabbian said as far as a return to Inter is concerned.

And as far as the prospect of a call-up for Italy at the senior level, the 21-year-old said that “I’m not thinking about that now.”

“It just seems like too much right now.”

“But obviously I would be honoured. To wear the Azzurri shirt would be a dream.”
