Midfielder Davide Frattesi has suffered a thigh injury during Inter Milan’s Serie A win over Atalanta this evening.

The Nerazzurri confirm the injury to the 24-year-old, via FCInter1908.

It was a mixed evening for Inter midfielder Frattesi at the San Siro.

The former Sassuolo midfielder came on for Henrikh Mkhitaryan just after the hour mark.

And it did not take too long for Frattesi to make an impact. In the 71st minute, the Italian international headed home Inter’s fourth goal in a 4-0 rout.

That goal came from an Alexis Sanchez cross into the box from a set piece.

This was Frattesi’s fourth goal in Serie A, and his fifth in all competitions this season. He had also previously scored just three days ago, in a victory away to Lecce.

However, Frattesi’s joy was short-lived.

Immediately after the 24-year-old scored, he went over to the bench to make clear that he had felt an injury in his leg.

According to the club, initial tests confirmed that Frattesi had suffered a muscle contracture in his right thigh.

Frattesi had to come off immediately following his goal due to the injury.

It was former Ajax and Everton veteran Davy Klaassen who replaced the 24-year-old.

Now, the question is when Frattesi will be able to return.

Inter have a few big matches on the horizon. There are Serie A clashes against Genoa at home and Bologna away.

Then, there is the second leg of a Champions League round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital.

A match against Napoli at home is Inter’s last before the international break.

Inter state that Frattesi will undergo further tests in the next few months to understand more about his injury and when he could be able to recover.
