Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian feels that Atalanta are like a “lucky charm” after grabbing his first goal of the season.

The 34-year-old spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, after he had scored the opener in the Nerazzurri’s 4-0 Serie A win over La Dea.

Darmian is not a player who scores all that many goals.

It is not the veteran Italian international’s main job in the team, and it is not as though he pops up in dangerous positions all that often.

But Darmian is capable of sniffing out opportunities.

And by coincidence, the former Manchester United and Parma man has made a bit of a habit of scoring against Atalanta.

Last season, Darmian scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over La Dea.

That goal came via a stunning long-range effort.

And this evening, the 34-year-old scored against the same team. But it was a very different kind of goal.

Darmian pounced on a loose ball after La Dea keeper Marco Carnesecchi had spilled it. He slotted the ball into the net for Inter’s opening goal against their Lombard rivals.

Matteo Darmian: Atalanta A “Lucky Charm”

Darmian noted that “It was important to break the deadlock to win. Winning was the most important thing.”

The Italian international continued that “They must be my lucky charm.”

“But jokes aside, we went onto the pitch with the right concentration and attitude.”

“We knew it was important to win, and that the three points would be very big,” Darmian said.

And as far as whether he thinks Inter can start to really think about the title now that they have a twelve-point lead on Juventus, Darmian didn’t want to go that far.

“We have to remain focused and keep going the way we have been.”

“The months ahead will be very important,” he added.
