Legendary Italian manager Fabio Capello delves into the secrets behind the success of Inter Milan and their coach Simone Inzaghi.

The Nerazzurri have been sensational as of late, earning praise from all corners. They currently lead the Serie A standings by 12 points after winning 11 matches across all competitions since the turn of the year.

The former Real Madrid, Roma and AC Milan manager feels that the Nerazzurri gained great confidence after sparring with Manchester City in the Champions League final last season.

Although they ultimately came short, they managed to cope with the Cityzens, putting them in great difficulty before succumbing to a 0-1 defeat.

“I believe that the path of this extraordinary Inter started at the end of last season. Mainly in the Champions League final in Istanbul,” wrote Capello in his column for La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews.

“Simone Inzaghi’s team understood just how strong they are. They played the second half with great intensity and quality.

“Putting a battleship like Pep Guardiola’s team in difficulty gave awareness to everyone, to the coach and the players. Even to those who arrived in the summer like Thuram, Pavard and Sommer.

“The new players realized that they have arrived at a team that fears no one in Italy or Europe.”

Fabio Capello Praises Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi For Implementing His Own Ideas

The former England coach also lauded Inzaghi for instilling his own ideas without copying Guordiola’s system like others do.

“I admire Inter for playing and winning through vertical plays and by moving the ball quickly.

“The Nerazzurri don’t try to copy the dominance based on ball possession that Guardiola’s City imposes. That would have been a bad idea anyway.

“Therefore, Inzaghi was good at taking this tactical direction and working on it with conviction.”

“Now this Inter is very fashionable, everyone is impressed by their results and style of play.”

Moreover, Capello believes Inter deserve to be among the main favorites to win the Champions League this season.

“For months. I have been telling foreign journalists that Inter must be considered as one of the favorites in the Champions League.

“Nevertheless, the bookmakers only put Real Madrid, Manchester City and perhaps Paris Saint-Germain ahead of them.”
