Inter Milan could equal their Serie A points total from last season with eleven matches to spare if they beat Genoa on Monday.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Last season, Inter enjoyed a sparkling campaign in the cup competitions.

Victories in the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana and a run to the final of the Champions League ensured that the Nerazzurri’s season did end on a positive note.

But in the league, there was no disguising that things were far below expectations.

Inter’s form in Serie A was highly erratic. There were a total of twelve losses in the league alone.

This meant that the Nerazzurri ended up finishing miles behind champions Napoli in the table. And also behind Lazio, having to settle for third place.

Inter Could Equal Last Season’s Serie A Points Total With Win Vs Genoa

Inter have so far had a somewhat more mixed season in knockout competitions this time around.

The Nerazzurri did win the Supercoppa Italiana in dramatic fashion, beating the likes of Lazio and Napoli in the new format for the competition.

But a disappointing early exit from the Coppa Italia against Bologna is the one major blemish on Inter’s season so far.

Meanwhile, in the Champions League Inter will be dreaming of another run like last season’s.

In the first leg of a round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid, the Nerazzurri secured a slender 1-0 advantage.

But in the league, it has been night-and-day compared to last season.

Inter have lost just one match all season long. And drawn three in total.

That means that, with 26 matches played, Inter are on 69 points. Three against Genoa on Monday would take that total to 72.

That is the same number of points that Inter collected in all 38 matches of last season.
