Alexis Sanchez will start alongside Lautaro Martinez in attack for Inter Milan against Genoa in this evening’s Serie A match.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper also anticipates that Marcus Thuram will be on the bench.

Former Arsenal and Manchester United veteran Sanchez has had his chance to shine in the last couple weeks.

The reason has been an injury to striker Thuram.

It had always looked likely that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi would be rotating the team more at this phase of the season. The fixture list is really starting to pile up for the Nerazzurri.

And the fact that Thuram has missed a couple matches has forced the coach’s hand.

That has meant that in the last couple matches, Inzaghi has given starts to Sanchez as well as Marko Arnautovic.

The former started against Lecce. And the latter got his chance against Atalanta.

Alexis Sanchez To Start For Inter Vs Genoa

Sanchez also came off the bench against Atalanta, replacing Inter captain Lautaro Martinez.

And the Chilean’s displays both from the start against Lecce, and against Atalanta as a substitute, were eye-catching. Sanchez grabbed an assist in both matches.

That means that Inzaghi will trust Sanchez from the start this evening.

Arnautovic will drop to the bench. It will be Sanchez who leads the line along with Martinez.

The 35-year-old will also be getting the nod ahead of Thuram.

The Frenchman is fit enough that he can be back on the bench. He will only be out for two matches after picking up a thigh injury against Atletico Madrid.

But Inzaghi will continue to trust Sanchez rather than rushing Thuram straight back into the starting lineup.

The 26-year-old could feature as a substitute in order to gain some match-fitness.
