Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu could be in the starting eleven for Saturday’s Serie A match against Bologna.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the Turk will definitely be back in the squad, but could even start.

Calhanoglu has been out for Inter’s last three matches.

The former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder picked up a thigh strain shortly before Inter’s Serie A match away to Lecce last month.

Calhanoglu missed that match. And he was also out of the squad for subsequent matches against the likes of Atalanta and Genoa.

Kristjan Asllani was the player to fill in for the 30-year-old.

But Calhanoglu has always had a clear target in mind as far as a return. He has been aiming to be at his best for the second leg of Inter’s Champions League round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid.

Inter Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu Could Start Vs Bologna

According to the Gazzetta, Calhanoglu will be able to return to training tomorrow.

The Turk is on the verge of completing his recovery. So he should be able to train normally with the rest of the Inter squad.

That will give Calhanoglu a couple of session in advance of Saturday’s Serie A match away to Bologna.

Therefore, there is little doubt that Calhanoglu will be in the squad for that match.

But according to the Gazzetta, it may be even more than that. The 30-year-old could even start the match at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

The priority will be to have Calhanoglu getting back to his best for the match away to Madrid in one week’s time.

Therefore, that will likely be the basis for the decision on Calhanoglu’s availability on Saturday.

If it is decided that the best course of action is for the Turkish international to play as a substitute in the second half to get minutes in his legs, then that is what will happen.

But if, on the other hand, starting would be more beneficial for gaining match-fitness, then Calhanoglu should be in the eleven on Saturday.
