Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez had an uncharacteristically quiet evening in the team’s Serie A match against Genoa.

As L’Interista highlight, the scores for the Argentine in the player ratings for the match across Italian media were quite middling. However, he did have one moment of quality in the buildup to Inter’s penalty.

One curious statistic in the buildup to yesterday’s match concerned the fact that Martinez had never managed to score against Genoa.

The Argentine has certainly been prolific for Inter in recent seasons. This season alone, he has managed to find the back of the net 24 times in Serie A.

But for whatever reason, Martinez has never managed to get on the scoresheet against the Grifone.

And once again, the Ligurians proved to be a bit of a personal “bogey team” for Martinez.

Inter’s captain did not score a goal. And in fact, he never came particularly close.

Quiet Evening For Inter Captain Lautaro Martinez Vs Genoa

Martinez spent a lot of yesterday evening’s match not particularly close to the penalty area.

The 26-year-old dropped back to help his team in what proved to be a very tough midfield battle.

And when Martinez did get closer to the Genoa goal, he struggled to get on the ball.

Martinez never really managed to get past Grifone defenders Mattia Bani or Johan Vazquez to get himself into a dangerous position.

Therefore, the Nerazzurri captain didn’t have any good opportunities to finally break his duck against Genoa.

However, Martinez did have one telling contribution.

The Argentine played the ball that Nicolo Barella latched onto to win Inter’s controversial penalty in the first half, from which the Nerazzurri scored their second goal.

Martinez’s vision and weight of pass were perfect to find his teammate rushing into the penalty area. Even on an off night, his quality did come through in a way that helped the team.
