Inter Milan have offered bonus payments to the squad if they can reach the Champions League quarterfinals against Atletico Madrid.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, report that the Nerazzurri players will receive a total of 2 million if they can progress to the next round.

This season, Inter will be hoping that they can go on a run in the Champions League similar to last campaign’s.

Last time around, the Nerazzurri reached the final of Europe’s top club competition.

This came after memorable wins against the likes of Barcelona, Porto, Benfica, and city rivals AC Milan.

Then in the final of the competition, Inter lost to Manchester City by a 1-0 scoreline. They went toe-to-toe with the Premier League juggernaut despite the perception of being underdogs.

This season, Inter currently have the advantage in their round of sixteen tie against Atletico Madrid.

The Nerazzurri won the first leg of the tie 1-0. They travel to Madrid in one week to try and see out that advantage.

Inter Squad To Receive 2M In Bonuses If They Reach Champions League Quarterfinals

The Champions League is not just a prestigious competition for Inter.

It is also a highly financially lucrative opportunity. And given the club’s well-known financial problems, this is no small matter.

Reaching the knockout rounds was worth €9.6 million on its own.

Inter would bring in 10.6 million in prize money from UEFA if they were to reach the quarterfinals.

And the club are ready to allocate some of that to the players in the form of bonus payments.

The Gazzetta report that 2 million would be disbursed between the players in the squad in the event that the team are to make it to the next round.

And the same would be true if the Nerazzurri reach the semifinal, and then the final.

Those would entail prize money of 12.5 million and 15.5 million respectively.
