Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu is back in the mix and could be set to start against Bologna at the expense of Kristjan Asllani.

The Turk has been out of action since sustaining a thigh injury on the 24th of February.

The 30-year-old missed the Serie A encounter against Lecce, Atalanta and Genoa. But luckily for the Nerazzurri, they managed to keep their winning streak going despite this noticeable absence.

This is partially due to Asllani who did an impressive job of covering for his more experienced teammate in the Regista role.

The Albanian did well on all three occasions, contributing with a goal and an assist.

Yet, the 21-year-old might have to make way this weekend as Calhanoglu returns to action.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the former AC Milan star will be part of the traveling party to Bologna.

Calhanoglu returns to the squad after overcoming his injury. As we reported earlier today, he trained normally alongside his teammates today.

Nevertheless, the main objective is to have Hakan in his optimal physical shape against Atletico Madrid.

Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi To Decide Between Hakan Calhanoglu & Kristjan Asllani Vs Bologna

The Nerazzurri earned a slim advantage in the first leg of the Champions League encounter. But the decisive clash will take place in the Spanish capital next Tuesday.

Therefore, we shall see how much playing time Calhanoglu will receive against Bologna.

The pink newspaper believes that it would ultimately depend on the star midfielder’s condition between tomorrow and Saturday morning.

Inzaghi will either decide to start the Turkish star from the get-go or introduce him as a second-half substitute. In the latter case, Asllani would maintain his place in the starting formation.

As the source reveals, Inter will hold one final training session at Appiano Gentile on Friday morning before taking the trip to Bologna.
