Legendary former Nerazzurri captain Beppe Bergomi believes Samuel Lino will be a key player for Atletico Madrid against Inter Milan.

Speaking on Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, Bergomi noted that the 24-year-old had been the player who really caused Inter problems in the first leg of the Champions League tie.

Inter head to Madrid for the second leg of their Champions League round of sixteen tie against Atletico this week.

In the first leg, the Nerazzurri secured a 1-0 victory to give themselves a potentially vital advantage.

That result came from a fairly convincing performance. In defense, Inter took few risks as they did not allow the Colchoneros a single shot on target.

The Nerazzurri just about dealt with the threat of players like Antoine Griezmann, Alvaro Morata, and Marcos Llorente.

But there was one player who did manage to unlock the Nerazzurri defense on a few occasions.

The speed and timing of runs from Brazilian wingback Lino proved to be an effective weapon. He was able to get in behind Inter’s right side on a few occasions.

Bergomi Identifies Samuel Lino As Danger Man For Atletico Madrid Vs Inter

As far as what he expects from Atletico on Wednesday, Bergomi said, “Let’s see if Griezmann recovers. He’s a vital player for them.”

“Samuel Lino was the most dangerous player in the first leg,” the 1982 World Cup winner continued.

“He caused big problems for Darmian.”

“But Inter know how to play very well in possession,” Bergomi said.

“I’m particularly thinking of players like Pavard and de Vrij. They’re very good at building out from the back.”

Bergomi also noted tactical improvements to this Inter team compared to last season’s.

“Compared to last season, where you knew that Inter were strong on the left, this season they can also create superiority on the right.”

“Not quite with the same quality, but almost. With Pavard, with Barella’s dangerous runs forward.”

“Now even in that area of the pitch, they’re dangerous.”

Bergomi noted that “When Inzaghi said that players’ values increase under him, he was right.”

“He’s raised the value of all the players he’s had,” the former defender observed.
