Inter Milan need a total of fifteen more points in order to clinch the Serie A title for this season mathematically.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper note that the Nerazzurri could very well wrap up the title in the derby against AC Milan.
With ten matches to go in Serie A this season, Inter have stretched their lead out to sixteen points at the top.
It is no longer Juventus who are closest to the Nerazzurri. The Bianconeri’s draw against Atalanta saw them fall seventeen points behind.
Therefore, AC Milan are the closest team to Inter after their win over Empoli yesterday.
Inter are on 75 points, and Milan are on 59. Therefore, with thirty points up for grabs in the run-in, the most points that the Rossoneri can possibly finish the season on is 89.
That means, of course, that ninety points would do it for Inter.
That means that Nerazzurri can theoretically afford to drop exactly half of the points on offer for the remainder of the season, and be mathematically certain of winning the title.
Inter Milan Could Clinch Serie A Title Vs AC Milan
Of course, Inter won’t just want to do the bare minimum to win the title.
The Nerazzurri will surely be keen to win the title with an impressive points total and margin of victory.
Theoretically, Inter are well within range of finishing the season on a hundred points or more. And at the very least, close to it.
Inter’s next four matches are against Napoli, Empoli, Udinese, and Cagliari.
Of course winning those four in a row will be very tough. But the Nerazzurri have already won thirteen from thirteen since the start of 2024, so they won’t see it as out of the question by any means.
And if Inter can take twelve points from those matches, that would bring them to the derby against Milan next month with a tantalizing prospect ahead of them.
The Nerazzurri could be certain of clinching the title in front of their city rivals with a win in that instance.
