Simone Inzaghi has taken a decisive step out of the shadow of Antonio Conte at Inter Milan by outdoing his predecessor’s best season.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

When Inzaghi took over at Inter in the summer, he had a big task on his hands.

The former Lazio coach was taking over from the highly-decorated Antonio Conte.

Conte had enjoyed two positive seasons in charge of the Nerazzurri. These culminated in a Serie A title triumph during the 2020-21 season.

Inzaghi was not necessarily expected to follow that up with another title win during the 2020-21 season. Not after a summer of big name sales and financial upheaval.

But Inzaghi came close, before he and Inter ultimately threw it away following a run of poor results in the spring.

This raised some big doubts about whether Inzaghi could truly fill the shoes of Conte.

Inter may have played some good football under Inzaghi right from the start. But consistency and mentality were question marks compared to the team under his predecessor.

Simone Inzaghi Fully Steps Out Of Shadow Of Antonio Conte

This season, though, Inzaghi looks to have finally found the right formula to triumph in the title race.

Inter are well on course to win the title. That would be the team’s first since Conte departed, and Inzaghi’s first as a coach.

And Inter are also on course to finish the season with a higher points total than in the campaign when Conte won them the title.

That campaign, the Nerazzurri finished with 91 points. They scored 89 goals, and conceded 35.

This time around, Inter have 75 points with ten matches to go. They have already scored seventy goals and conceded just thirteen.

If Inter can keep up anything like the form that they have been in all season, the numbers should certainly paint a portrait of a team superior to the best that Conte ever built.

That is on top of the fact that the Nerazzurri have won five pieces of domestic cup silverware under Inzaghi. And reached the final of the Champions League, a competition where they floundered under Conte.
