Inter Milan wingback Federico Dimarco feels that the team’s league result will mean nothing against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old spoke to Amazon Prime, via FCInterNews, ahead of the round of sixteen second leg clash.

This evening, Inter take on Atletico Madrid for a place in the Champions League quarterfinals.

The Nerazzurri do have an advantage from the first leg. But just an extremely slender one, at 1-0.

Therefore, there is still very much everything to play for in the second leg this evening.

Inter can be confident considering their league form.

Having beaten Atletico last month in the first leg, the team have also been flying at the top of the Serie A table.

Inter are a whopping sixteen points clear of AC Milan at the summit. That is the result of having won their last nine matches in Serie A.

But it won’t matter this evening. The only thing that will matter is the result of the match at the Metropolitano.

Federico Dimarco: Serie A Results Irrelevant In Champions League

As far as the Nerazzurri’s extraordinary league form, Dimarco said that “What we’re doing in the league becomes irrelevant in the Champions League.”

“Because in the Champions League, all the matches are separate, and very difficult.”

As far as what the team need to do against Atletico, Dimarco said that “We have to have the same mentality that we have been all season.”

“We have to play the way that we know how to and win the match,” the Italian international added.

Dimarco said that “We’re expecting a tough match, like in the first leg.”

“It’ll be a match full of tackles,” he continued.

“And we’ll have their home support up pushing against us hard.”

“We’ll have to make sure that we don’t take the wrong approach to it,” Dimarco said.
