Inter are lining up Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper Bento as a long-term successor to Yann Sommer in goal.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

At the moment, there is no doubt about who the Number One is at Inter.

35-year-old Swiss international Sommer arrived at the Nerazzurri from Bayern Munich last summer. He came in to replace Andre Onana.

And Sommer has certainly done an exceptional job of replacing Onana following the Cameroonian’s move to Manchester United.

Sommer has kept more clean sheets than any other keeper in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

So Inter are in no rush to replace their current first-choice keeper. Sommer should also be Number One next season as well.

But the Nerazzurri are mindful of the fact that Sommer is in his mid-thirties. They are keeping one eye on the future.

Inter Line Up Athletico Paranaense’s Bento As Successor To Yann Sommer

According to the Corriere, Inter’s plan is to sign a younger keeper who can initially be the deputy to Sommer. But with a view to eventually inheriting the starting shirt.

And the newspaper predict that the Nerazzurri already have a particular name at the top of their list.

24-year-old Brazilian Bento has already been on Inter’s radar for more than a year.

And reports have suggested that the Paranaense keeper would be very much open to a Nerazzurri move.

So Inter see Bento as a fairly ideal solution.

The Nerazzurri believe that the Brazilian has the quality to eventually become their starting keeper.

Therefore, Inter’s plan is to sign Bento as early as next summer.

The 24-year-old can then spend his first campaign at the club as an understudy to Sommer.

The Swiss is still capable of holding down the starting role for another season or two at least.

But beyond then, Bento would be waiting in the wings to replace Sommer.
