Simone Inzaghi has his hundredth win on the Inter Milan bench in sight in this evening’s massive match against Atletico Madrid.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that the Champions League round of sixteen second leg would surely be one of the most hard-fought for the coach.

This is Inzaghi’s third season as Inter coach. The 47-year-old has been in post since taking over from Antonio Conte in the summer of 2021.

And as the Corriere note, the former Lazio coach has now been at the helm for 147 matches.

Things have not always gone perfectly during that time. There have been 24 draws and 24 losses.

Last season alone, for example, saw Inter lose a whopping twelve times in Serie A alone.

But from the beginning, Inzaghi’s Inter have shown that they are capable of hoovering up the victories.

And this campaign, the Nerazzurri have really made good on that promise. They have been in dominant form in Serie A, losing just once.

And Inter have won a remarkable thirteen straight matches since the start of 2024. That has seen Inzaghi rapidly approach triple digits in the win column.

If the team can make it yet another victory this evening, it would certainly be a hugely important one.

Simone Inzaghi Targets 100 Inter Wins Vs Atletico Madrid

Inter do not necessarily need to win this evening.

A draw would be enough to see the Nerazzurri through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

But Inzaghi has made perfectly clear that he and his players have no intention of “speculating.”

The Nerazzurri will treat the match as though it’s starting from 0-0, despite having a narrow 1-0 advantage from the first leg.

Inzaghi will surely want to put the tie to bed in convincing fashion, rather than simply closing up shop and hoping to hold onto the first leg advantage.

And if this approach results in a win, it will be win number fourteen for Inter in 2024. Out of fourteen matches played.

And for Inzaghi, personally, it would mean that the coach had achieved his hundredth win with Inter.

Certainly it won’t be easy against an opponent of Atletico’s quality. Particularly away in Madrid.

But Inzaghi’s Inter have proven themselves time and time again already.
