Despite yesterday’s heartbreaking Champions League elimination, Inter Milan and Lautaro Martinez still have plenty to achieve this term.

The Nerazzurri squandered a two-goal cushion on aggregate in their encounter against Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16.

The Spaniards managed to equalize and take the match to extra time. They were eventually victorious following penalty shootouts, much to the delight of the home supporters at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Therefore, Tuttosport (via FcInterNews) criticized Inter for their defensive blunders last night. The newspaper also recalled how they spurned a host of scoring chances in the first leg.

At this point of the campaign, the domestic league is the only remaining competition for Simone Inzaghi’s men.

But with a 16-point gap separating them from the chasing pack, they already have one hand on the Scudetto trophy.

Yet, the source insists that Inter can still aspire to chase two important records.

The first is breaking the club’s point-tally record, the one registered in 2006/07, which was the first season following the Calcipoli earthquake.

At the time, Roberto Mancini’s men managed to assemble 97 points on their path towards the title.

Inter Milan & Lautaro Martinez Can Break Three Historic Records

But that’s not all, as Inter could also break the all-time Serie A record of 102 points. It was Antonio Conte’s Juventus who set this record in 2013/14, the manager’s final campaign in Turin.

On another note, Lautaro Martinez is also chasing an achievement of his own. The Argentine is currently leading the Serie A scoring charts with 23 goals, leaving the rest of the field in the dust.

The Nerazzurri captain could be looking to match or even break the record set by Gonzalo Higuain and Ciro Immobile for the most Serie A goals per season.

The former Napoli and Lazio strikers both managed to net 36 league goals in a single campaign.
