Inter Milan are closing in on contract extensions for both captain Lautaro Martinez and midfielder Nicolo Barella.

This according to Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini, who reports on TuttoMercatoWeb that the Nerazzurri are edging closer and closer to new deals for the duo until the end of June 2028 and 2029 respectively.

Inter have made locking down the futures of key players in the spine of the team a priority.

The Nerazzurri are not waiting around despite the fact that both Martinez and Barella are currently under contract until the end of June 2026.

The aim will be to see the pair put pen to paper on new long-term deals until several seasons after that.

The fact that Inter are in talks with Martinez and his representatives is no secret.

And Ceccarini confirms that there was a meeting between the Nerazzurri and Martinez’s agent in Madrid on Wednesday.

The journalist reports that the situation is clear. Martinez is demanding around 10 million net per season. Inter have started from an offer of 8 million net per season, but are inching closer to Martinez’s demands with add-ons.

And according to Ceccarini, things are moving along in the negotiations.

The journalist anticipates that the next meeting between Inter and Martinez’s representatives could be decisive.

Ceccarini expects that Martinez will sign a new deal before the end of the current season.

Not Just Lautaro – Inter Also Closing In On Nicolo Barella Extension

According to Ceccarini, the talks with Martinez are not the only major contract extension negotiations that Inter are working on.

Midfielder Barella is another key player who the Nerazzurri want to tie down on a new deal.

Sending a clear message to other clubs that it is “hands off” the former Cagliari midfielder is important.

And according to Ceccarini, the talks with Barella are if anything even closer than those with Martinez to reaching a positive conclusion for Inter.

The journalist reports that the magic number should be around €7 million net per season.

And that is essentially all wrapped up.

Ceccarini reports that Inter want to extend Barella’s deal until the end of June 2029 rather than 2028. And the player would be happy to do so.

Therefore, an extension for Barella likely is not too far on the horizon.
