Inter Milan will aim to extend the contract of midfielder Nicolo Barella until the end of June 2028 or 2029.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Barella is currently under contract with Inter until the end of June 2026.

So there is not exactly a rush to tie the former Cagliari midfielder down on a new deal from the club’s perspective.

But at the same time, updating Barella’s contract in a timely manner would be an important bit of housekeeping.

Partly this would be to ward off transfer interest in the 27-year-old. The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool have all been reported as hoping to bring the Nerazzurri midfielder to the Premier League.

Then, there is the matter of increasing Barella’s wages to reflect his importance to the team.

So Inter will certainly see a new deal for Barella as a priority in the coming months.

Inter To Extend Contract Of Nicolo Barella Until 2028 Or 2029

Tuttosport note how Inter have already held the initial meeting with Barella’s representatives.

This took place in Riyadh whilst the Nerazzurri were in Saudi Arabia for the Supercoppa Italiana.

There were no serious discussions of the details in that meeting. But there was an initial approach to make sure that everyone was on the same page.

Inter are currently focusing on extending the contract of captain Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine’s current deal runs until the end of June 2026. Inter want to extend that until the end of June 2028.

Then the Nerazzurri will turn their attention to Barella.

The next few months should see the actual negotiations with the Italian international’s representatives.

And the exact duration of the contract could depend on when negotiations conclude.

Inter will likely aim to extend Barella’s deal as far back as the regulations allow them to.

So if the negotiations conclude after the end of the current season, the 27-year-old could put pen to paper on a contract until the end of June 2029.
